Your throttle lever is not directly connected to fuel injectors or engine timing. Instead, a position sensor reports throttle position to the engine control module, which then commands fuel delivery, ignition timing, and pressure accordingly. Over time, if the throttle cable stretches, the sensor drifts, or the lever mechanism wears, the engine control module might misread the throttle position. This leads to hesitation, inconsistent power delivery, or difficulty reaching full RPM.
A diagnostic tool optimized for gasoline engines might be inadequate for diesel engines because diesel systems are fundamentally more complex and require deeper access to proprietary protocols and specialized functions. Understanding these differences helps you choose a tool that matches your actual diagnostic needs, not just what marketing claims promise.
